SF's Effort To Curb Childhood Obesity
The somewhat infamously progressive City By The Bay has made a rather controversial move to fight childhood obesity.
San Francisco's Board of supervisors voted to ban toys in fast-food meals that target kids unless they have reduced sodium, fat and sugar content and include fruit and vegetables.
Nothing is set in stone yet, the board will vote again next week, and if it passes again then, the toys will stay in the meals until December of 2011 when the law will take effect.
Nonetheless, childhood obesity is a serious issue that must be addressed, and San Francisco's action to dissuade kids from choosing a meal for the fun not the food, is encouraging.
